About the future of RAF Henlow

About the future of RAF HenlowIn 2016 RAF Henlow was identified for disposal. On current plans, RAF Henlow is targeted for vacation by 2023 and phasing of this has already commenced. Homes England, the Government&#39;s national housing agency, and Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) the estate management expect for the Ministry of Defence (MOD), are working in partnership to shape redevelopment proposals for the site. These will include building new homes, employment opportunities and facilities for the local community. It is one of four sites being progressed by the partnership between Homes England and the DIO to develop surplus MOD land across the country. We want you to be involved from the start and through the life of the project, providing input that will help shape the proposals for the site. We are scheduling a series of engagement events over the lifetime of this project, and will be providing regular updates on this page over the coming months, inviting members of the community to contribute towards the evolution of the plans for RAF Henlow.

What sort of spaces would you like to see? How should these look and feel?

Draft Masterplan Overview

These are for a development which:<li>Fully integrates with Henlow Camp and Lower Stondon and helps create a new village identity and a new heart that gels the community</li> <li>Provides a range of new community services and facilities meaning that people won’t need to travel to other towns and villages day to day</li> <li>Respects and reflects the history of the base</li> <li>Provides a variety of high-quality open spaces for sport, play and recreation</li> <li>Is landscape-led and delivers enhancements in terms of biodiversity</li> <li>Minimises the amount of traffic, and reduces the need for residents to travel by car, by improving footways, cycleways and bus services to / from the site and between the village, other villages and railway stations</li> <li>Delivers a range of high-quality new homes, including genuinely affordable homes, that are well designed and sustainably constructed</li> <li>Delivers a range of spaces for businesses to locate into and communal workspaces for residents of the village to use</li> <li>Makes the best use of technology including low energy use and high-speed broadband</li> <li>Is designed applying best masterplanning practice and in the light of lessons learned from elsewhere</li>

One of these is listed hanger buildings marked with blues stars in the centre of this <a href="http://map.marked"></a> plan, which will need a sustainable long term use. There are also other opportunities in the North West and North East of the site.
